INSTRUCTOR: CLAIRE B. PEARSON, M.Ed. (Fellow of the Orton-Gillingham Academy of Practitioners and Educators) - This course will provide an overview of: the development of written language, recent relevant research information, and techniques to incorporate knowledge of phonology, morphology, semantics, syllabication, and syntax into multi-sensory teaching of reading, writing, and spelling. It is designed for teachers, tutors, and home-school parents, who
are working with students who have difficulty acquiring basic written language
skills through traditional basal or whole language methods. The methods and
materials presented will be appropriate for a wide age and grade level range of
students. The content of the course will follow the suggested curriculum
outline recommended by the Orton-Gillingham Academy for certification at the
Subscriber and Associate levels. (7 PLUs)
